Hello! It is the middle of the week and I am finally getting to a post. As life got increasingly busy last year, I found myself slacking on the 12 tags. Design teams take priority when it comes down to it.  I am hoping to keep up this year but we will see.
Of course my inspiration for this tag was Tim Holtz’s January Tag. I combined this challenge with my DT project for Artistic Outpost.
My background started out using Tim’s stencil technique ( I used his gears mask). I wasn’t thrilled with the outcome so I added stamping fron the Paper Boy & Generation Redux stamp sets. I embossed and then added some gesso and sprays.

image

My steampunk flower was made with foil. It was embossed, painted and sprayed. I glued lots of tiny watch parts over the flower. The beautiful sprig of flowers is from I Am Roses. I added a little color to match my background. My sentiment is from the Symphony set and the stamped embellishment from the Generation Redux stamp set.
Thank you for looking.

A Completed Journal Cover

I started this journal cover 2-3 years ago. It looked fabulous (or so I thought at the time) until my 2 year old snuck into my craft room and sprayed water all over my cover.  It sat in my ‘projects to be completed’ bin until recently.
The back is chipboard and I used sprays and inks with gear masks by Tim Holtz. I stamped the background using Oxford Impressions script stamps. I cut out the TH gears, distressed them and added some crackle paint. I layered them under my stamped image from Lost Coast Designs. Simple but effective. I hope you enjoy.
I’ll do my best to post a few more times this week. We have Vacation Bible School at our church every night until Friday so it will be a bit busy. The kids have a blast and my hubby is in all the skits and having way too much fun acting like a super hero! Happy Monday.

I finally got to try out my new Tim Holtz stamps from my birthday. It took me quite a while to complete this tag. Once I found the right elements it came together quickly.
I started off with a ginormous tag that was gifted with my order from The Funkie Junkie Boutique. So, my background is painted, sprayed and gessoed. I then used book paper & stamps. My dies cuts are layered in the background with harlequin embossing. I used some flowers and metal embellishments to tie it all together. Thanks for looking.

Hello! Today I have a tag I made for Tim Holtz’s 12 tags Challenge. I love the background technique that Tim showed.  Here is a picture of my background before adding my embellishments.

image

I am loving those new Distress Paints (thanks to my friend). I altered a piece of chipboard and used patinas on a metal bookplate. I added some twine around the bookplate and layered everything on top of a mistable tag. I used the butterflies from the pappilon stamp set. I cut & layered them on top of each other. The butterfly on the very top has been stamped on acetate.

image

And here is a closeup of all the layers. I hope you have a great week and thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your time and comments.

I loved Tim’s March Tag. The beautiful spring colors mixed with a grungy touch are just what I love.
I improvised a bit as I don’t have all the newest products. I used Tim’s tattered floral die to make the flowers. I layered petals, cut and painted some leaves and added glitter. The sentiment and the rabbit are from Crafty Secrets. The banner was free cut and stamped. The background is TH paper and the edges have been sanded. I think my favorite is the sparkly flowers and rabbit.

I hope you are enjoying your week. Have fun crafting!

Tim’s February Tag 2013

Wow! I can’t believe I am actually sharing a non-design team project with you today. Lately, I have had no time to craft on the side for challenges or just because. I am on three design teams right now and it gets a bit overwhelming at times.
Alright, onto the tag. I loved Tim Holtz’s February tag but I don’t have any of the blue print stamps so here is my take. I dug out my new Wendy Vecchi stamps I got for Christmas. Can you believe I have a stack of 10 or more stamp sets that I haven’t had time to play with since Christmas? Disgraceful! Anyway, so I went for a more feminine theme because Valentine’s is over.

image

My background was swiped with silver metallic distress stain and stamped with several layers of background stamps. I then added an embossed back cardstock with a metallic core. The dress form was colored using Distress Markers and the large TH wings were embossed in silver. I clustered mini metal gears around the dress forms waist to create a steampunk belt. I finished off with some black bakers twine, a TH stamped heart and a flower.
Thank you for visiting. I am a little behind on visiting your blogs but I’ll be coming around as soon as life slows.
  Happy weekend!

Just a quick post to show my Artistic Outpost project for this week. I made a little suitcase with my new TH Valise die that I got for Christmas. The Generation Redux stamp plate is perfect for the front of this travel case. I used the background stamps from the plate to make my mixed media background. Awesome set and quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Don’t forget if you have any Artistic Outpost stamps you can enter your project in the February Referral Program.

I had a tiny bit of time this week to craft outside of design teams. That never happens anymore! I decided to participate in Linda’s challenge over at Studio L3. I made a card for Tim Holtz using the marbled distress stain technique in my background, which got covered up, and the industrial grunge technique on my bookplate.

image

Here is the easel card opened up. Most of my stamps are Tim Holtz except for the doily stamp on the background by Hero Arts. Thanks for stopping!

Tim’s October Tag…well, a box really

You might be wondering what this is. I decided to use Tim’s technique from his October Tag and apply to this little altered box. This is the front and back. I did the same technique that Tim showed except I added some distress embossing powder to the crinkled edges of the tissue paper for a more aged and textured appearance. I stamped the background using his Classic stamp set Architech blueprints (can’t remember the number off hand). Love them!!

image

The inside of my box uses a Land Of Nod image, hand sewn buttons to rusty wire, Ideology and micro gears and watchparts. I patined a lot of the metal and added a little tie to the boy using metal watch.parts.

image

Sadly, this side is difficult to see due to the lighting. It is darker than the other side but there is a burst of color which you can’t see in the photo. Sorry. I used a vintage image that Tim used on his June tag. I tinted the image using water and distress markers. You can see how Tim did it here June Tag. I layered with pop dots, added some bakers twine around the back layer and added some more micro gears. I chose the word ‘Hullabaloo’ because I was imagining these two children as siblings. And you know how kids make a lot of hullabaloo!!

image

One last pic to leave you with the inside view. This box took me longer than normal to complete as my mojo flew out the window midway through but hopefully I got it back now. Thank you for being patient with my longer than normal post. If you think this ones long for me, just wait till later on in the week. I have a doosy coming. Well, enjoy your evening and thank you for stopping. I am loving this months tag. Steampunk rules!! So, I got a order in from the Funkie Junkie the other day and for some reason I ordered Ranger foil tape. Now I know why. I followed Tim’s technique and it just took off from there. Corrigated cardboard is my newest obsessions. And these Spellbinders gears by Donna Salazar are awesome! So much detail.

image

I also used some micro clock parts to add a bit more interest. They are really small but oh so cool.

image

Well, thats about it for me. Hope you like. Happy weekend.

It is hard to believe that the summer is almost over. I have been so caught up in life that I have been missing out on a lot of the challenges that I want to play along with. I did however make time for Tim’s amazing tag.

image

I kind of took off on my own. Not much of this is TH except the roses, leaves and baubles but its all about the inspiration, right? I embossed my background and distressed in several shades. I added some acrylic paint to the embossed areas before distressing. The gears are my new Donna Salazar Spellbinders die. I LOVE these!! So much detail. I used black cardstock with a metallic core. I added some real micro watch parts which you can see if you look closely. The Gibson Girl is my focal stamp and it is complete with a few pearl baubles. Thank you to my newest followers for joining me. Please leave a comment to let me know you visited so I can stop by and visit you.

‘Ancestors’ Mixed Media Canvas

09 Thursday Aug 2012

I love these canvases that I bought at Ocean State Job Lots. A great price for lots of canvases. I have been trying my hand at different textures. I started out by adding some paper, gesso and paint in the background. On this canvas, I used a technique that I found on Donna Salazar’s blog. It didn’t turn out so well. I’m thinking its because I used distress ink instead of the mixed media inks used in the Tutorial. I then sprayed the background in some Dylusion sprays. I stamped the background and images using Tim Holtz stamps. Can you believe I got 4 sets on clearance at Joanns for 12$. Awesome, huh?

image

I used wood letters and covered them in black soot distress embossing powder to add some texture.

image

I layered several elements to make the background for the TH image. I used TH distress markers to color the image.

image

I really pushed myself to use some rosettes that have been sitting on my peg board. I have so many embellies that are just sitting around unused and forgotten.

image

I added a rosette on top a wooden clothes pin and a wooden butterfly on top of that. Some metal and twine complete the canvas.
Well, I think thats about it for today. Thank you for stopping.

Tim’s June Tag and The Whatevers

20 Wednesday Jun 2012

Like that bright yellow in the background? That is my new Lemon Zest ‘Dylusions’ spray. I had to try and make it work with the vintage theme somehow. I tried Tim’s marblized background but I only have one color distress stain, picket fence. I tried adding water to distress inks but my paper did not like it so well and tried to flake off. I then decided to spray to save myself some cardstock. I used a background stamp by Christy Tomlinson and then splattered some ‘Dylusions’ Turquoise’ over top. The rest I followed closely to Tim Holtz’s tag but with a few adjustments to suit my eye.  I went with the lovely bright colors that remind me of the ocean. Also, the photo is from The Whatevers Challenge. A inspiration photo is given and then you take it and create your own story or sentence behind the photo. I don’t have a story but I chose my Red Rubber Designs sentiment because it is a sarcastic expression of my thoughts on this photo. I have always wondered why the victims of old time photos never smile. They all look like they have the worse life. Even wedding photographs are full of sad expressions. So the phrase ‘be happiness itself’ makes me chuckle a little. Well, thats about it for today.

It was so fun to just play this afternoon with my new Spring Distress Inks. I haven’t made a tag in a while (sad face) so I needed a little tag fix. I started off my tag by stamping on some white and lavender patterened tissue paper. I adhered it to my tag and distressed the edges and tag using my new inks. I wanted to do something a little different than Tim so I decided to dig out a stamp set I have been dying to use. I used my new distress markers to color in my vintage girl. I stamped out the tape measures and added some buttons.

image

My melting pot has been on back order since December so I still don’t have it.

image

Instead, I added glossy accents to my flowers and heated them until they bubbled (I love doing that). And that it about it folks. Thank you for looking!

Grungy Monday 39

18 Sunday Mar 2012

Today’s tag is for Grungy Monday using Tim Holtz‘s  technique with alcohol ink. This one was a bit of a challenge for me. I only own these three colors of alcohol ink. I suppose I could have chosen a better stamp for my central image but I do so love the geishia. I added a few flourishes to the edges, inked the tag base with peeled paint and added some hemp and a chinese coin. I would like to try this again with some different color inks. I learned that its good to try new techniques even if it is not my best work. Not everything I touch will turn out pretty. Sad but true. Perhaps practice is the key. Thank you for stopping by.
