About The Scrap Yard

My Story

Welcome to my blog featuring everything that I love. My name is Kate and I am the Mommy to two little boys, a beautiful little girl and one sweet baby that resides in heaven. I am wife to the most wonderful and patient man that walks the face of the earth. 😉 We are blessed to live in the beautiful mountains of Pennsylvania, surrounded by horse and buggy.

I am a Believer saved by the amazing grace and the blood of Jesus Christ. Outside of my family, creating with my hands is my passion. I love to papercraft and learn new techniques. Vintage, Asian, Bohemian and Global Decor are some of my favorite places to visit on Pinterest and the web.  I used to love painting with watercolors before the boys came along but for now I am content to dabble in areas that require less time and concentration. I enjoy decorating my home, collecting teapots, sewing, gardening, baking yummy stuff to eat, drinking aromatic tea,  corresponding to friends by hand, reading all sorts of books and writing short stories. My most recent interests have expanded to herbal medicine making, blending my own teas, making Kombucha, fermented foods, sewing clothes for my newest little princess and art journals. Thanks for stopping by!

I’m a retired grandma that loves paper crafting, journaling, sewing, re-purposing old clothes and furniture . . . I’m just having fun and enjoy each new day the good Lord blesses me with. Come on over for a visit . . . I want to be a follower, but I can’t find the right button to push. So I’m going to copy your blog address and put you on my front page blog list . . .then I can find you easily and follow your beautiful site. Have a wonderful day, Connie 🙂

  4. Hi, Kate.

My name is Mary Nasser, and I’m the Blog/Social Media Coordinator for StencilGirl Products. We wanted to reach out to you to see if you may be interested in being a Guest Designer for StencilGirl Products, creating a Guest blog post for StencilGirl Talk (our blog). We think you would inspire our blog readers while giving you more exposure, too!

If this sounds of interest to you, I’m happy to send you more details.

  5. I am so happy to have found you! I am in healthcare but have recently come back to a littl kid love of mine … art! After decades working and raising a family, the girls are now in grad school, and I’m had a push from the Lord to create again using paint, and paper! Aloha!

  6. Hi Kate! I want to answer a question you have asked on my blog about binding my junk journal. I assemble all my pages first and embellish them, and then i use the three hole pamphlet sewing technique. Sometimes it will take a week or more to sit down and bind them. It’s easier to photograph the journals before they are bound, and this is why in some photographs of my journals you may see a few pages in the background. Thank you so much for your wonderful comments you have left for me in previous blog posts. I sincerely appreciate them. Xoxo Joyce Kers from Scraps of Elegance.

Hi Kate. The first thing that attracted me to your art is your last name that I saw on the cover of Art Journal magazine. My maiden name was Yetter, and the name isn’t very common. I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and now live in Toronto, Ontario. I really like your work. I also enjoy creating — sketching, painting, journaling, making cards. It’s inspiring that you manage to fit art into your busy life.

    • Hi Susan! It was so sweet of you to stop by. I enjoyed hearing about you. Pittsburgh is a few hours away but not too far from where we live now. But Ontario is certainly a long way from PA.
Yetter is fairly common in our very small town but I never heard of it before meeting my hubby. Maybe we are distantly related. 😉
Thank you for your kind comment.

Just read the lovely article in The Sentinel about you. I’ve always been interested in journaling and other various arts and crafts. So wonderful to know there is such talent in our immediate area. I’m anxious to see your future posts and also to go back and read your previous posts.

    • Hi Cheryl, I apologize for taking so long to get back with you. Thank you for your kind comment about the article in the Sentinel. Jane did a great job writing it and I even made a few new friends in the process. It also opened the opportunity for me to teach.
In fact, I will be teaching my first class with the Mifflin/Juniata Arts Council in the beginning of June. If you are interested in joining us for a Art Journaling 101 class you can check it out on FB: https://www.facebook.com/events/2049880325290985/
Thank you so much for writing me. I love hearing from readers, especially local ones.
