I love these canvases that I bought at Ocean State Job Lots. A great price for lots of canvases. I have been trying my hand at different textures. I started out by adding some paper, gesso and paint in the background. On this canvas, I used a technique that I found on Donna Salazar’s blog. It didn’t turn out so well. I’m thinking its because I used distress ink instead of the mixed media inks used in the Tutorial. I then sprayed the background in some Dylusion sprays. I stamped the background and images using Tim Holtz stamps. Can you believe I got 4 sets on clearance at Joanns for 12$. Awesome, huh?
I used wood letters and covered them in black soot distress embossing powder to add some texture.
I layered several elements to make the background for the TH image. I used TH distress markers to color the image.
I really pushed myself to use some rosettes that have been sitting on my peg board. I have so many embellies that are just sitting around unused and forgotten.
I added a rosette on top a wooden clothes pin and a wooden butterfly on top of that. Some metal and twine complete the canvas.
Well, I think thats about it for today. Thank you for stopping.

I don’t know how you can say the background didn’t turn out well! It might be different from the technique you were following, but it’s a great background in its own right – fantastic in fact. Love the coloured image and layered textures behind it. Great, great canvas!

What a fabulous canvas, Kate! Love all those different bits and bobs you’ve added, and so much awesome texture. You sure did score bigtime on those stamp sets!
Wow Kate! Wow! This is absolutely gorgeous. How you can say the background is not very good I don’t know. Love this. Did you stamp the peg? May I borrow that idea please? Fantastic!
The background is amazing, a wonderful canvas, love all the details. Thank you for joining us at FSC this time.

Gorgeous Kate.
I like that the colours are vibrant but at the same time aged, a wonderful contradiction. You are too hard on yourself as that background is stunning. Great use of embellishments and I notice you stamped the peg (I love stamped pegs, they are such fun).
Thank you for sharing with us at FSC.

Hey Kate! I bet your DT leader thinks I’m a nut case! haha So sorry about posting my comments to that blog instead of your individual blog. This piece is really cool that you’re featuring right now. I love all of the layers of texture and color! Great mixed media canvas! Thanks so much for all of the lovely comments you leave on my blog. I am so glad that you like my work and feel compelled to leave such nice thoughts. ❤ Candy
