Mixed Media Art Journal Page

I recently started a new art journal without any particular theme in mind. You can see the cover Here. The first page started out with a industrial/steampunk theme but as ir progressed, I just went with whatever felt fun at the time. I love making journals with a particular theme so mismatched pages and such are a bit out of my comfort zone. This mixed media art journal page happens to be one of my favorite pages in the journal thus far. I went out of my comfort zone and tried a new technique which is not amazing or anything, just new to me.

Paper Towel Recycle/Technique

So, I started out with this as my base. Stenciling and WOW! Embossing, Sunny Yellow  made the checkered texture. Gesso and Distress Paint are also added. Here is the stencil I used and by far, one of my favorites.

For the paper towel technique, I used a used paper towel from my desk that was previously used to sponge up excess paint, ink, glue and maybe the occasional booger from my daughters nose.

I glued the paper towel down and then added some Ranger Dylusions Ink Spray, Lemon Zest and Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Paint, Pumice Stone.

After I added the paint and spray I started layering my scrap paper and photograph. There is stamping in the background and to top it all off I added some pretty microbeads which are so cool but so easy to loose. If you haven’t tried microbeads you should. They add such fun texture to your project.
