Hello! Today I have a tag I made for Tim Holtz’s 12 tags Challenge. I love the background technique that Tim showed.  Here is a picture of my background before adding my embellishments.

image

I am loving those new Distress Paints (thanks to my friend). I altered a piece of chipboard and used patinas on a metal bookplate. I added some twine around the bookplate and layered everything on top of a mistable tag. I used the butterflies from the pappilon stamp set. I cut & layered them on top of each other. The butterfly on the very top has been stamped on acetate.

image

And here is a closeup of all the layers. I hope you have a great week and thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your time and comments.

Another canvas to practice my layouts. The background paper is 7 Gypsies Paddington. I love the black & white together. I the added a bit of gesso with a palette knife.

image

When dry, I stenciled some diamonds with molding paste. I then layered all my white embellishments and sprayed with a couple of colors. I tried to keep the colors contained (i am addicted to drippy paint/ink), allowing some white to show through.

Lastly I added a bit of stamping, twine and my photo. I hope you like it. Thank you for looking!

Here is a canvas I made to practice my layout skills. I am amazed at all the gorgeous layouts that I have seen on Pinterest. So much talent to inspire.
So, I decided to go a little out of my comfort zone. My background is textured using a honeycomb stencil and texture paste. I used some dylusions for color. I went over the background again using gesso and a chevron stencil.

image

I added some string in the upper corner and a banner for some more texture.

image

I added some flowers, lace and a bit of border to frame the picture. And Of course the picture is of my little men. Thanks for looking,
Kate

Here is another layout from my Past Vibes Art Jounal. The background was made using tissue paper, modeling paste, gesso and sprays. The image on this page is one of my favorite from Land of Nod Studios.

Another page using a vintage photo of a family. Trims, laces, masking tape, washi tape and flowers embellish the photo. Hope you like. Kate

Wow, I can’t believe this is my last post with Red Rubber Designs. A whole year has passed and I have enjoyed working with all of their fabulous stamps. I certainly have learned to get out of my comfort zone. Now it is time for me to take a break and enjoy working with my growing but forlorn pile of stamps.
I decided to finish off my term with a journal page in my new art journal, ‘Past Vibes.’ I used some book paper, masking tape and molding paste in the background. I stamped using various stamps sets from the Background Elements. I used the Circles & Sentiments to frame my Sentiment. I incorporated a vintage photo, twine, lace and a few other elements. I hope you will check out the Red Rubber Designs Store. My favorite are their vast variety of background stamps that I use all the time. Enjoy your evening!

I have really been inspired by all the gorgeous art journalling on Pinterest, especially by Finnabair. I am very drawn to her style as I am sure many of you are.
I have almost completed one art journal but am really unsatified with the results. I love looking back to see how my art has progressed through the years but my one and only art journal makes me a bit embarassed. Most of the pages are down right awful. Perhaps it is because I have not taken the time to practice. I understand that not every piece of art will turn out a masterpiece but I struggle with calling something art when just looking at it makes me want to toss it in the garbage. All that just to say… I am starting a new journal in the hopes that it will spur me on to new creativity.
I love themed books. This journal will be a place to try new backgrounds techniques using vintage images. I am not sure why I am calling it Past Vibes other than the past stands for the vintage photos. The vibe part may be based on my background experimentation.
Here is my first layout.

I had a lot of fun this weekend at the prospect of this new project so I have a few more layouts to share with you this week. Enjoy your evening!

Welcome to the March Artistic Outpost Blog Hop. This months focus is on backgrounds, sentiments, and typography. Since I love backgrounds I tried to make the background of my canvas the focus.

image

I started out by painting my canvas in various colors. I spread a layer of pink molding paste and stamped into it using the clock stamp from the Wonderland Collage. I layered different colors of paint and sprays once the paste dried. The Ephemera Backgrounds, one of my favorite background sets, was used to stamp in the background and on the pocket watch backing. I also uses some of the background stamps from the Generation Redux set.

image

The rest of my embellies were treated with gesso and/or metallic paint. The gentleman image and ‘steampunk’ sentiment are from the Steampunk set.

Thanks for visiting and don’t forget to hop along to the other design team members blogs for more inspiration.

This month the design team at Red Rubber Designs is featuring ‘Special Occasions.’ Our spotlight stamp is Easter Chicks. All of the DT members will be sharing a project with this stamp during for the blog hop.
So, I have a few pictures to show the steps that I went through in creating this project.

image

My base is recycled packaging for a frame I used on a previous project. I covered it in gesso. The Tuscany Spice Paper Stack is my base paper and then I added a light pink homemade paper in various spots to create some texture. The papers were mod podged on the background. I sprayed the background with orange and violet sprays to achieve the colors I was looking for.

image

I then stamped several Background Elements to create a bit more texture and interest.

image

I rubbed a bit of white metallic paint over the raised areas to highlight. I really love how it came out.

image

I embellished with some flowers that have been coordinated in color. I used the cute little chick stamps around my central image.

image

Here is the Contest: Guess how many candies are in the candy dish. Guess how many Easter candies are in the candy dish and you could win the spotlight stamp set Easter Chicks. Send your guess to contest@RedRubberDesigns.com. If you have a blog, please include a link to it in your email. Contest ends Sunday, March 10 at midnight CST.

I loved Tim’s March Tag. The beautiful spring colors mixed with a grungy touch are just what I love.
I improvised a bit as I don’t have all the newest products. I used Tim’s tattered floral die to make the flowers. I layered petals, cut and painted some leaves and added glitter. The sentiment and the rabbit are from Crafty Secrets. The banner was free cut and stamped. The background is TH paper and the edges have been sanded. I think my favorite is the sparkly flowers and rabbit.

I hope you are enjoying your week. Have fun crafting!

Hello! I have another cutesy card to share for Red Rubber Designs. I always loved faires growing up. I still like them but they are not so practical to have around with boys. Tinkerbell is as close as I get now days. Thank you, Peter Pan. So, the base is kraft cardstock. The background was destined for the trash bin but I gave it one last try and it changed my mind. I loved it against the light colored die cuts. I stamped the fairy on the white blossom die cut, colored her with Distress Markers and glittered up her wings to match the background. My friend recently bestowed upon me all of her brand new trims (about 8). I layered a few corrdinating trims at the bottom of this card and it added the perfect girly touch that every fairy needs. Thank you for looking. And don’t forget to check out the sale going on at the Red Rubber Designs Store. Pam always has a fabulous sale! Kate

Amazing vintage photographs of “newsies” were used as the inspiration for Artistic Outpost’s newest release, Paperboy.

This collection features iconic newsboys and girls from the early 1900′s when children hocked the latest news on the street corners of America’s busiest cities. Also included are a newsprint collage, a megaphone for announcing the latest and greatest, and sentiments professing that “you are the hero in your own story”.

The collection is available in both unmounted sheets of red rubber for $14 or mounted on EZ Mount cling foam and pre-cut for you for $22.99. Mounted version comes with a cling card for easy storage.

Isn’t it fabulous?!!!! This is the newest stamp plate by Artistic Outpost If you have little boys this stamp plate is awesome. I can’t wait to share all of my projects.

image

My first project is a foldable photo frame. On the cover I used several layers of UTEE and mixed in some green embossing powder and then stamped into it. I stamped the image of the three kids and added some flowers to embellish.

image

The inside of the frame has been distress embossed using one of the sentiments from the Paper Boy plate and sprayed using a few of my favorite colors. The images were stamped and colored using Distress Markers.

Another picture of the cover.

I as so inspired after creating my February Tag for Tim’s Challenge this month that I decided to take my creative flow and make this shadow box for the February I Am Roses challenge. The theme is ‘Love is in the air’ and must be red or pink and include hearts. I decided on red since the photos are of my boys and I won’t use pink on projects featuring them.

image

All the flowers are from IAR’s. I used a medium blue gardenia which I sprayed black, a cherry blossom sprayed black, a mini white flower and white daisy petals which have been sprayed red.

image

My friend gave me this tray. It came with crafting supplies inside each compartment. I gessoed the tray and sprayed using Lindy’s. I stamped in several spots using my new Prima stamps. The paper stack Lille’ by 7 Gypsies was perfect for this project because it is red and very masculine. Another one of those hoarded craft items that I haven’t had a chance to use.

image

I used chipboard, stamped images, metal and trims to embellish the box. When I was finished I took a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of chipboard and mod podged my ‘Lille’ paper. I then sprayed red and black glimmer sprays and added a few more torn bits of paper onto the background. The box was then mounted in the middle. I plan on giving it as a gift. It can be displayed using a plate stand.

Lots of fun to make. I feel like I had mojo for a few hours this weekend and I am so thankful I had the time and energy to play! Happy Monday!

I used the Generation Redux and the London Underground stamp plates from Artistic Outpost. These are two of my favorite stamp plates.
I used a background technique by Wendy Vecchi I found in one of my books. I embossed some acrylic packaging and rubbed it with gold leaf. I used this as the frame for my stamped image.
Have a great weekend.

I had a tiny bit of time this week to craft outside of design teams. That never happens anymore! I decided to participate in Linda’s challenge over at Studio L3. I made a card for Tim Holtz using the marbled distress stain technique in my background, which got covered up, and the industrial grunge technique on my bookplate.

image

Here is the easel card opened up. Most of my stamps are Tim Holtz except for the doily stamp on the background by Hero Arts. Thanks for stopping!
